Brent Hunsberger, CFP®

Brent Hunsberger Brent Hunsberger is a Certified Financial Planner™ and joined Silver Oak in January 2014. Previously, he worked part-time as a fee-only financial planner at another firm in Portland.

He's written The Oregonian's personal finance column, "It's Only Money," since November 2008, the height of the global financial crisis. To better inform his readers, he went back to school in 2009 to earn an Executive Certificate in Financial Planning from the University of Portland. Along the way, he discovered he liked helping people tackle their goals. In 2010, he passed the rigorous Certified Financial Planners Board of Standards exam.

Brent believes individuals and families deserve impartial guidance as they plan their future and pursue their dreams. He approaches planning much as he does his columns: He tries to demystify high finance. He focuses on the three most important variables investors can control -- holding down costs, appropriately diversifying investments and developing a thoughtful plan.

Brent earned his bachelor's degree in journalism and sociology from Indiana University. He's written for newspapers since he was 16, and spent 17 years at The Oregonian. As a journalist covering business and workplace issues, he's gained an understanding of the interplay between the economy and human nature. He's ready to share lessons he's learned as he helps clients put their goals on paper.

Outside work, he enjoys reading, running, cooking, sports, playing with his two young daughters and, as much as they allow it, the Chicago Cubs.
